Bodies Found in House Fire Believed to be Missing Child and Mother (Updated)

DETROIT, MI – The bodies of a woman and a child have been found in a burned out basement on Detroit’s eastside.  They are believed to be 4-year-old Savannah Renee Walker and her mother, 39-year-old Heidi Walker.  They were last seen in the 1500 block of Cadillac Blvd. in Detroit on Tuesday, February 16th, 2016.Heidi Walker-1

It appears that the 2 bodies have been found in a house fire at 4716 Lakeview Street, which is near the corner of Forest and Lakeview on Detroit’s east side.  The bodies match the description of both the mother and child.  That is only three and one half miles from where they were last known to be seen.

During a news conference this morning, Detroit Police Chief James Craig and Michigan State Police Lieutenant Mike Shaw, confirmed that a delay of some type took place from Livingston County in getting the word out to the public regarding this incident.  The investigation began earlier in the week.  Yesterday, Friday, February 20th, 2016, Amanda Lynne, who is the older daughter to Heidi Walker, went to the Michigan State Police Post in Brighton to file the missing persons report.

Many have complained online about the AMBER ALERT being sent out at 2:00 a.m.  The alert made cell phones go off around the state.  It startled many out of their sleep.  Several had wanted to know why the alert was not sent out sooner.

Chief Craig did confirm that Marcus Hightower has a history of domestic violence involving Heidi Walker.

Based on a post to the older daughters Facebook page, its likely that the mother had a history of drug abuse.  It is unclear if drugs played a role in the disappearance of the mother and her younger child.

Fire crews were called to the house around 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning, February 20th, 2016.

Positive confirmation has not yet been made on the two bodies found in the burned out house.  An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, February 21st, 2016, to make identifications of the woman and child.

An AMBER ALERT was issued about 2:00 a.m. by the Michigan State Police for Savannah Walker.  The alert remains in effect until it is confirmed that she is the child that was located in the abandoned house.

Hastags on Facebook and Twitter of #?JustceForSavannah? and #?PrayersForSavannah are being used to express outrage and disbelief over this horrific crime.

An all out manhunt is on for Marcus Hightower.  As of 5:00 p.m. Hightower’s Facebook profile page appears to have been deleted. It had been visible throughout the day.  He was the boyfriend of Heidi Walker.  Hightower has a lengthy criminal history.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, Marcus Tyrone Hightower is currently out on parole.  He has multiple convictions.  One of them being child abuse. It appears based on those previous convictions he could be Armed and Dangerous.

Hightower’s convictions date back to 2007.  He has been convicted for the following:
