Child Dies from Flu Like Symptoms in Oakland County

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the McLaren Hospital – Emergency Care Facility located on the 5700 block of Bow Pointe Drive for a child in full cardiac arrest.  police

Upon arrival, Deputies were informed that the 4-year-old child had been brought in by his mother and had no pulse and was not breathing.  The child had been suffering from flu-like symptoms since Friday evening, April 8th, 2016.  There were no obvious signs of trauma or of child abuse.

Prior to transferring the child to St. Joseph’s Hospital in the City of Pontiac, medical personnel were able to obtain a pulse; however the child was not breathing on his own.  Upon arriving at St. Joseph’s Hospital it was determined that life saving measures had been unsuccessful and the child was pronounced deceased by an Emergency Room physician on Sunday, April 10th, 2016.

Deputies provided the child’s mother with transportation to St. Joseph’s Hospital.  A Detective was made aware of the incident and the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified.  An autopsy has been scheduled.
