Oakland County Man tries to Flee from Police in Stolen Van (Video)

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MI – An Oakland County man was arrested after he stole a minivan and then tried to flee from police.Oakland County Sheriff

During routine patrol, at 9:58 p.m., on Monday, May 2nd, 2016, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies received a Be On the Lookout from the Waterford Township Police Department for a stolen white minivan with a wood paneling exterior.

Deputies observed the vehicle a short time later in the area of Dixie Hwy and Maybee Rd.  Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at Dixie Hwy and Waterford Road.  The minivan traveled south on Dixie Hwy and through a traffic signal at Andersonville Rd before entering a business parking lot. The driver then accelerated through the parking lot and exited onto Andersonville Rd traveling west towards Airport Rd.  A short vehicle pursuit ensued.  Deputies applied a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT Maneuver) to the fleeing vehicle near Andersonville and Big Lake Rd.  After the vehicle was stopped the driver exited the vehicle and ran through nearby yards before being apprehended by Deputies.

The subject, a 28-year-old man, from Independence Township was taken into custody and transported to the Oakland County Jail where he was cleared for incarceration by jail nursing staff.  The subject was lodged on the charges of Fleeing and Eluding Police, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer and Driving While License Suspended.
