One Killed, Two Injured in Kalamazoo Shooting

KALAMAZOO, MI – One person was killed while two others were injured after a fight escalated into a shooting on Monday night.Police

On Monday, May 23rd, 2016, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the corner of Mabel St and Westnedge Ave. in reference to a shooting.

A 38-year-old male was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Officers began life saving measures, while Life Ambulance transported the victim to Bronson Hospital. The Kalamazoo resident was later pronounced dead at Bronson Hospital.

The victim has been identified as Niquay DeJuan Baker.  He was originally from Kalamazoo but was living in Chicago.

A second and third victim arrived at Bronson Hospital within minutes of the shooting. Both sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. At this time they are listed in stable condition. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
