One Injured in Crash in Cass County

MASON TOWNSHIP, MI – Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr, reports that on Friday, June 24th, 2016, at approximately 5:10 p.m., his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash on US 12 near Gayla Drive in Mason Township. car crash

Fred Simmons, 55-years-old, of Elkhart, was waiting to turn left onto Gayla drive when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Robert Mikel, 54-years-old, of Ligonier. Mikel’s vehicle then exited the roadway striking a tree.

Robert Mikel was transported to Elkhart General Hospital by ambulance for treatment of his injuries. Seat belts were worn, drugs and alcohol were not believed to be a factor in this crash. This case remains under investigation. 

Assisting the sheriffs office were Michigan State Police, Edwardsburg/Ontwa Twp Police, SEPSA Fire and Ambulance.
