ORION TOWNSHIP, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called at 7:43 p.m. on Thursday, July 7th, 2016, to investigate a prescription fraud at a CVS Pharmacy in the 3400 block of Baldwin Road.
It was determined that a suspect had dropped off a fraudulent prescription at the pharmacy. Deputies arrested the man when he tried to pick the prescription up. He is a 22-year-old Pontiac man.
Four other suspects, two men and two women, who were waiting outside the store in a blue SUV, fled the scene. It would later be learned that the vehicle had been stolen out of Pontiac.
An officer in a patrol vehicle tried to stop the fleeing SUV, but the driver refused to stop. He ran a red light at Baldwin Road and Waldon Road where he hit a van crossing the intersection.
The driver of the van, a 75-year-old man, from Independence Township, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the stolen SUV, a 30-year-old man from Pontiac, was arrested.
The three other suspects were released at the hospital pending further investigation.
The investigation continues into the incident.
