According to police investigative reports, Dr. Kumar Abhigyan Singh, 47-years-old, made numerous threats over the past weekend to kill several individuals including prosecutors, judges, attorneys, bailiffs and others as a result of what he perceives to be mistreatment in a criminal case from 2013-2014 that, he claims, severely tarnished his reputation.
The first threats came this past Friday night, September 9th through postings on the Facebook page of a sister of the assistant prosecutor who handled the case from 2013-2014. In those postings, Singh threatened to kill the sister and other members of her family including the assistant prosecutor. On Sunday, Singh made further death threats against numerous individuals including Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper, court bailiffs, a retired Oakland County Circuit Court Judge and others via telephone voice and text messages to an Oakland County attorney.
Search warrants executed pursuant to the investigation of these threats turned up weapons and other evidence at Singh’s Royal Oak residence.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton’s Office is handling the case after the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office recused itself due to Prosecutor Cooper and her assistant prosecutor being named victims in the case. Leyton has charged Singh with numerous counts of terrorism, using a computer to commit a crime, ethnic intimidation and other related crimes.
Singh was taken into custody early Monday morning and was arraigned on Wednesday, September 14th, 2016, in 44th District Court in Royal Oak.
