LEROY TOWNSHIP, MI – On Monday, September 19th 2016, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to Eastbound I96 near Dietz Rd in Leroy Township for a three car crash.
Investigators say the crash occurred when a vehicle traveling Westbound on I-96 was rear ended and traveled across the median into Eastbound traffic, and was struck by a truck pulling a horse trailer. The driver that was struck by the Eastbound vehicle died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that rear ended the victim was transported to the hospital for unknown minor injuries. The driver of the truck was treated at the scene for unspecified minor injuries. No animals were in the horse trailer.
The Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the man that died and notify his family.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office had regional support with closing the highway from MSP, East Lansing Police, Meridian Township Police, MSU Police, Williamston PD, & MDOT.
