PONTIAC, MI – Chane Caprice Thomas, 44-year-old, of Pontiac, is facing two felony counts after she allegedly intentionally struck another woman with her car during an alleged road rage incident in a Big Lots Parking Lot.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Pontiac Substation with the investigation of a road rage incident between two adult females that resulted in serious injuries to one of the drivers involved. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Oakland Point shopping Center located at 310 Telegraph Rd., in front of the Big Lots Store, at approximately 12:15 P.M. on Thursday, November 3rd, 2016.
The incident started in the area of State St. and Johnson St. in the city of Pontiac. The vehicles involved were a 2008 Jeep Patriot and a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Both vehicles entered the shopping complex on the north east corner of Elizabeth Rd. and Telegraph Rd. Once in the lot the driver of the Jeep Patriot, a 52-year-old woman, of Pontiac, allegedly exited her vehicle with a baseball bat.
Chane Thomas, the driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix, backed up and then struck the other driver who had exited her vehicle. Thomas then fled the scene. The vehicle was located in Waterford Township by the Waterford Twp. Police Department who executed a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle a short time later. She was lodged at the Oakland County jail pending charges of felonious assault.
The victim of the assault was transported to McLaren Hospital in Pontiac, where she was later transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont and is listed in critical condition.
Chane Thomas was not injured in the crash. There was no airbag deployment in the Grand Prix.
Alcohol / drugs use is unknown for both parties involved in the incident.
Chane Thomas was arraigned late in the 50th District Court by The Honorable Preston Thomas today and charged with:
Count 1: Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder – a 10 yer felony
Count 2: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Vehicle) – 4 year felony
The assault remains under investigation.
