Man runs in Oakland County from Cops in Stolen Vehicle [Video]

PONTIAC, MI – A 27-year-old Pontiac man was arrested after he stole a vehicle, fled from police and wrecked the car in the City of Pontiac on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016.

At 3:30 a.m. an Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a white sedan traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and then entering the left turn lane at Auburn Rd.  The traffic light turned red and due to the slippery road conditions, the vehicle was unable to stop.  The sedan came to a stop in the middle of the intersection and then negotiated the left turn on to Auburn Rd.  The Deputy activated his emergency equipment and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The suspect refused to stop the and fled from the deputy, traveling through several neighborhood streets at low speeds.  The pursuit ended in the area of Cottage Street and Whittemore Street (Spring Lake Apartment Complex) when the suspect jumped from the vehicle, allowing it to collide with two parked cars.  The suspect continued to flee on foot.  The suspect managed to get past the security guard, entering the elevator and taking the elevator to the fifth floor.

Deputies were allowed entry into the apartment by a co-occupant the apartment and were able to locate the suspect hiding there.  The suspect was taken into custody. Deputies located a handbag that was reported stolen from the City of Rochester Hills.  The vehicle was confirmed stolen from of the from Pontiac in mid-November and was impounded.  The recovered stolen property found inside of the apartment was confiscated and placed into evidence. Detectives from the Auto Theft Unit were notified and responded to the Pontiac Substation to conduct an interview.

The suspect was subsequently lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges.  The incident remains under investigation.
