BAD AXE, MI – Official word was received today that Bad Axe resident, 71-year-old Jean M. Kociba, passed away last evening, Tuesday, December 13th, 2016.

Kociba had been hospitalized last Saturday, December 10th, following her lone occupant, single vehicle accident in Colfax Township.

Witnesses reported seeing her that day in her 2008 Chevrolet Impala, eastbound on the south shoulder and ditch of S. Van Dyke Rd., east of Soper Road. It appeared she was alert and traveling at normal speed. During that time she impacted with a mailbox, utility box and finally a monument/boulder in front of the Evangel Life Church. She was then transported to the Huron Medical Center by Central Huron Ambulance and later transferred out by ambulance to an out of county hospital.

Accident investigators from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene of the accident, which occurred at 9:39 a.m. It is believed the accident may have been the result of a medical condition overtaking the driver. Other agencies assisting were the Bad Axe Fire Department.
