PONTIAC, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating a multi-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on east bound M-59 west of Opdyke Road in the City of Pontiac, the crash occurred at about 6:03 a.m.
An unidentified male was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer on west bound M-59 east of Opdyke Road when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway to the left and crossed the grass median. The Chevrolet Trailblazer then entered the east bound lane of M-59 and was struck by an east bound 2014 Cadillac ATS and a 2016 Chrysler 200.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer came to rest in the east bound lanes and caught fire. The unidentified driver was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead on scene. The front seat passenger of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, a 24 year-old Clinton Township resident was able to exit the vehicle and was pulled to safety by witnesses on the scene.
The driver of the Cadillac ATS, a 46 year-old Howell resident was seriously injured. The driver had to be extricated by Waterford Regional Fire Department. The driver of the Chrysler 200, a 44 year-old Brighton resident was also injured.
All injured occupants were transported to McLaren-Oakland Hospital. The passenger of the Chevrolet Trailblazer was listed in stable condition. The driver of the Cadillac is listed in serious condition. The driver of the Chrysler was treated and released.
The identity of the driver is being withheld until positive identification can be made.
All occupants were wearing seat belts. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit is looking for the circumstances why the Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation.
