MOORE TOWNSHIP, MI – On Saturday, January 21st, 2017 at approximately 9:35 a.m. Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Sanilac Road in Moore Township as a 20-year-old Snover resident advised Sanilac Central Dispatch that he had gotten into an argument with his 48-year-old roommate at their residence and at one point during the argument the roommate pulled a knife on him.
Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to speak to the suspect, however the suspect refused to comply with verbal commands to exit his vehicle. The suspect then reversed his vehicle directing it towards one of the Deputies, however the Deputy was able to safely retreat behind cover.
The suspect then left his residence and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit was called off approximately 10 miles north of where it began due to poor weather conditions.
According to Lt. Washkevich, Deputies continued to canvass the area and at approximately 2:55 p.m., they located the suspect still traveling in his vehicle near Mills and Banner Roads in Wheatland Township. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop again and the suspect refused to stop. The suspect continued on multiple roads in Marion and Delaware Townships.
At one point the suspect ran one of the Deputies and their patrol unit off of the road in an attempt to further evade arrest. At that point the suspect called Sanilac Central Dispatch and requested to speak to a Deputy. While on the phone with Dispatch, the suspect said he was on Patz Road near Goetze Road and stopped to speak to a bystander that was walking their dog. Multiple Deputies arrived on scene shortly after and the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 3:20 p.m. without further incident. Fortunately no one was injured during either incident.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office P.A.V. “Personally Assigned Vehicle” program including the Sanilac County K9 Unit were used in the apprehension of the suspect. Deputies were also assisted on this call by a Prosecutor from the Sanilac County Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspect is lodged at the Sanilac County Jail on multiple Felony Charges related to both incidents. He is awaiting a Monday arraignment in Sandusky.
