SAGINAW, MI – A Saginaw Michigan man admitted in court on Monday, February 27th, 2017 that he strangled his fiancé’s 10-month-old daughter to death because she would not quit crying.

Michael Lask, 29-years-old, stated before a Saginaw County judge on Monday that he strangled death 10-month-old Ciana Leigh McCliggott.

Lask pleaded guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder.

The Saginaw News reports that as part of the plea agreement Michael Lask will get a minimum sentence not to exceed 22 years and six months in prison. The maximum possible penalty for second-degree murder is life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors had charged Lask with an open count of murder, that includes first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole. That charge was dropped as part of his plea deal.

Ciana McCliggott was strangled to death on the morning of Saturday, March 12th, 2016, at the Sleep-ees Motel, 8125 Gratiot in Thomas Township. Lask stated that he was temporarily living with his fiancé and several children at the motel after they were forced to move from a home in Gratiot County due to a mold infestation.

Michael Lask will receive mental heath treatment while he is in prison.
