Detroit Man charged with Murder in Arson Fire that Killed 5 People

DETROIT, MI – Henry Keith Jackson, 55-years-old, of  Detroit, was arraigned on Friday, March 10th, 2017, on five counts of first degree murder and five counts of arson in connection with a fire in the 10500 block of Whittier on Detroit’s east side.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the five male victims, whose names have not yet been released, lived in the building where Jackson was also a resident. Several additional people suffered from burns and smoke inhalation.

Prosecutors say Jackson set a fire in an apartment on March 8th at 1:35 p.m.

Following a brief appearance in 36th District Court Friday afternoon, Jackson was remanded into custody at the Wayne County Jail to await his next court date.

Johnson’s  probable cause conference is scheduled for March 23, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 30, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.  Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court.
