Grosse Pointe Woods Woman headed to trial in death of FedEx driver

DETROIT, MI –  The case of Mayah Batts, 26-years-old, of Grosse Pointe Woods, charged in connection with the Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 fatal accident involving a FedEx driver will be headed to trial.

Myah Batts waived her right to a preliminary examination in court Wednesday morning March 15th.

It is alleged on February 7th, 2017, at approximately 2:27 p.m., Myah Batts was driving her vehicle on Newport Street at a high rate of speed.  It is further alleged that she disregarded a stop sign at Chandler Park Drive and struck a FedEx truck driven by Rodrick Motley, 48-years-old.

The collision forced the FedEx vehicle on to a grassy median and victim to be ejected from the vehicle.  The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the car crash.

Batts has been charged with Murder-2nd Degree, OWI Causing Death,  DWLS Causing Death, and Reckless Driving Causing Death.
