7 Amish Family Members involved in Buggy Accident in Isabella County

ROLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI – The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a car versus Amish buggy injury accident on Thursday, March 16th, 2017 at 8:05 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene it was determined that there were seven Amish members who had been in the buggy.

There were five adult and two children under the age of three.

The Amish buggy had been struck by a 1997 Dodge Dakota Pick Up driven by Joshua Hougton, 26-years-old, from Blanchard. that was traveling east bound on Blanchard road. The buggy was completely destroyed in the accident.

All seven Amish members were transported by Mobile Medical Response to the hospital. A helicopter was dispatched but was refused by the family members. The status of the victims are unknown at this time but did not appear to be life threatening. The horse was transported by horse trailer and Dr. Pol’s veterinarian’s office was contacted in regards to possible leg/foot injury on the horse.

All 7 Amish members that were involved in the crash were taken to Spectrum in Grand Rapids. There is no updated information on their conditions at this time. The names of the victims are listed as:

  • Anna Shrock  – 20
  • Anna Shrock  – 71
  • Lydiann Shrock – 44
  • Mary Shrock – 4
  • Paul Shrock – 1
  • Samuel Shrock – 43
  • Lydia Miller – 20

Factors involved in the crash:  Sun facing West, Unclear windshield (frosted over), Hilly area

Assisting at the scene were Isabella County Central Dispatch, Millbrook Rolland Twp Fire Department, Fremont Township Fire Department, Deerfield Township Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, Aeromed from Grand Rapids and Michigan State Police.
