UPDATE: Reportedly the mother dropped them off at a relatives place. The children are safe.
They have been taken to Children’s Hospital to be checked out.
“The kids appear to have been given to a family member, and they were found unharmed,” said Detroit police Cmdr. Marlon Wilson.
DETROIT, MI – Two children are missing and Detroit Police need everyone’s help to locate them. This is a Serious Missing Person(s) situation.
Sgt. Michael Woody stated that the kids aren’t considered in danger at this point, which why no Amber Alert has been issued. This situation as this time does not meet the threshold for an Amber Alert to be sent out.
Zamar Cox is a black male, 3-years-old, light complexion, 4ft, 45 lbs. He was last seen wearing gray jogging pants and a red sweatshirt.
Maria Cox is a black female, 1-year-old. She was last seen wearing a one piece pink outfit.
The mother stated that she allowed the children to visit their father. The father is alleging that he brought the children home at approximately 5:00 on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017. The mother is stating the father never brought the children home. They are reportedly missing from an apartment complex on Detroit’s west side. The children were last seen in the 900 block of Whitmore which is in the area of McNichols and Woodward.
Neighbors at the apartment complex have stated to authorities that they have seen the kids since 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The FBI is also currently involved and taking the lead on the case. A ground search is going to be getting underway by police shortly.
Sgt. Woody also said “At this time we can conclude that there is no foul play within the residence that would indicate that there was any type of harm or struggle, or any type of crime scene”.
As expected, both parents are being questioned by police.
Currently the two children are missing. Detroit Police state that the mother is displaying signs of some type of mental illness. The mother has reported her children missing previously, however this time the situation appears to be very different to authorities. She went to the 12th Precinct on Thursday night to report she did not know where her children were.
