PONTIAC, MI – On Thursday April 13th, 2017, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of S. Paddock St. for a report of a man who had been assaulted.
Upon arrival, Deputies located a 53-year-old man, from Pontiac, standing in the street with multiple severe lacerations on his head.
Star EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local area hospital.
A witness stated that he observed a male subject assault the victim with an edged weapon until another subject pulled the suspect off of the victim. The two subjects left the area in a vehicle. Deputies located the suspect vehicle a short distance away. The suspect was not in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop however, the subject who was with the suspect at the time of the assault was transported to the Pontiac substation for questioning.
He is not a suspect in the assault.
The suspect, a 58 year old man, from the City of Pontiac, was identified by another witness by use of a photo lineup.
Deputies checked the status of the victim at St. Joseph Hospital. The victim sustained several severe lacerations to his back, head, jaw and face and was admitted for surgery. He received at least 100 staples to his head and face. The victim at this time is out of surgery and is intubated and unable to speak.
The suspect is a registered sex offender. His residence was checked but he was not located.
The suspect was arrested at 3:00 p.m. today by Sheriff’s detectives and he is currently being questioned. He will be lodged at the OCJ pending charges.
