PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 2001 Centerpoint Parkway on a subject shot in front of the MDOC Pontiac Parole Office.
The caller described the gunman as approximately 5’4” to 5’7” 140 lbs. wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans holding a silver handgun. He remains on the run today.
Upon arrival, Deputies observed the victim lying unresponsive, in a pool of blood, next to the open driver’s side door of his vehicle.
The victim has been identified as Shane R. Shorter, 38-years-old, of Oak Park.
Spent casings were observed at the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Star EMS via Telemetry from McLaren Oakland Hospital. Deputies established a perimeter and checked the area with the assistance of K-9 Units and the OCSO Aviation Unit, with negative results.
Shane Shorter had an extensive criminal history based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He had been convicted of:
- Home Invasion – 1st Degree
- Safe Breaking
- Police Officer – Fleeing – Third Degree – Vehicle Code
- Weapons – Felony Firearms 2nd Offense
- Controlled Substance-Possession Of Marijuana
- Police Officer, Resisting & Obstructing
Detectives and the Forensic Laboratory responded to the scene to continue the investigation. An investigator with the Medical Examiner’s Office also responded.
An autopsy performed on Thursday, May 11th, 2017 revealed that three gunshot wounds killed Shane Shorter; two to the head and one to the right bicep.
Friends and family of Shane Shorter stated he was a very private person. He was not one to be involved with social media. It seems that it was a rare occasion that he would even allow a picture to be taken of himself. Shorter leaves behind 8 children.
