DETROIT, MI – Gerald Duane Day, 28-years-old, of Detroit, in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault in Grosse Pointe.
On April 15, 2017, at approximately 6:30 a.m., it is alleged that Day broke into the home of a 37-year-old female located in the 19000 block of Raymond, assaulted the woman at gun point and inquired where her personal possession were located.
It is further alleged that Day sexually assaulted the woman while holding a handgun to her head. After the assault, he left her home on foot. Investigation by the Grosse Pointe Woods Police Department led to the following charges against the defendant:
1) Home Invasion 1st Degree;
2) CSC 1st Degree (during felony and/or with weapon);
3) CSC 1st Degree (during felony and/or with weapon);
4) CSC 2nd Degree (during felony and/or with weapon);
5) Assault with Intent to Commit Armed Robbery;
6) Weapon – Felon in Possession;
7) Weapon – Felony Firearm*.
Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Director John Kosanke said,” I would like to acknowledge the work of the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. This case is a great example of many different agencies working together to make the Grosse Pointe communities a safe place.
Prosecutor Worthy said, “Thanks to the hard work of the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department working in conjunction with other police departments and my office, this alleged dangerous predator will now face very serious criminal charges.”
The facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.
Gerald Day was arraigned and remanded to jail in Grosse Pointe Woods Municipal Court on June 8th. His probable cause conference will be held on June 15, 2017 and his preliminary examination will be held on June 29, 2017.
