PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 80 block of West Colgate Ave. for a 2 year old baby girl that was not conscious and not breathing.
Deputies and Paramedics from Star EMS arrived on scene shortly after midnight on Friday June 9th, 2017. Paramedics immediately started CPR and transported the child to McLaren Hospital – Oakland while continuing CPR. Once at the hospital, the child was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
The child’s mother advised Deputies that she put the child to bed a few hours prior on a mattress on the floor. When she checked on the baby she discovered that the child was not breathing. The child’s mother said that the child had been suffering from a cold and she had given the child over the counter medication (Benadryl and Ibuprofen) without the advice of a Doctor. The mother and the biological father reside at the residence along with their other children.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Detectives were contacted and responded to the scene. There were no signs of trauma to the victim. The child’s father indicated that she did not have a history of health related problems. The OCSO Forensic Science Lab responded to process the scene. An Investigator from the OCSO Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene. CPS was notified and responded to conduct their own investigation into the welfare of the other children.
An autopsy was done Friday morning. No cause of death is known at this time per the Medical Examiner. Their office is awaiting toxicology results.
