34 yr old Adrian Man arraigned in Suspected Drunk Driving Fatal Crash near Saline

YORK TOWNSHIP, MI – A 34-year-old Adrian man, suspected of driving drunk, was arraigned on charges in connection to the fatal crash that took the life of a 19-year-old near Saline on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017.

Matthew Stoy, of Adrian, was formally charged on July 4th, 2017, in connection to the fatal crash that took the life of Jacob Rauguth, 19-years-old, of Saline .

Authorities were called out to the crash scene at about 2:15 p.m. on Sunday.  The accident occurred at Bemis and Moon roads in the York Township, east of Saline and south of Ann Arbor.

Police believe Jacob Rauguth, who had properly stopped at a stop sign before continuing, was broadsided by Matthew Stoy who ran a stop sign at the intersection.

This is Stoy’s second drunk driving offense. The first offense took place in New York.

Two others were injured after Rauguth’s Pontiac G6 was hit by Stoy’s Mercury Mountaineer. They are listed in stable condition

Rauguth was pronounced dead at the scene.

Matthew Stoy was given a $50,000 bond during his arraignment.

Obituary for Jacob Rauguth

Age 19, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 2, 2017 in Saline, MI as a result of an automobile accident involving a drunk driver.

Jacob was born in Ann Arbor, MI, on July 29, 1997, the son of Darin and Lisa (Engelhardt) Rauguth. Jacob worked at Brecon Village in Saline where he was known by the residents as “our Jacob”. Jacob enjoyed the outdoors, skateboarding and spending time with his friends & family.

Survivors include his parents Darin and Lisa, his brother Joseph Rauguth, maternal grandparents Larry and Maria Engelhardt, paternal grandparents Bob and Fran O’Brien and numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Saline, MI with Fr. Francis Mossholder as Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) 1739 W. Big Beaver, Troy, MI 48084, or to St. Andrew Catholic Church 910 Austin Drive, Saline, MI, 48176. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline where friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 6, 2017 between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. and at the Church on Friday, July 7 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.

A luncheon will follow the service and will be held at the Church.
