BAD AXE, MI – The search for Saturday’s missing kayaker, Curtis Herbon, 22-years-old, of St Clair Shores, was hampered due to unfavorable wave and water clarity conditions at the scene area today.
Officials were only able to search on the surface. This was done with a patrol boat and a drone. However, tomorrow’s forecasted weather appears to be allowing them to be more productive. They will be using side scan sonar and divers. Weather permitting, the search will begin again using sonar shortly after sunrise.
Originally the surviving victim, Robert Lapensee, 20-years-old, of St. Clair Shores, told the Huron County Sheriff’s Deputies Hebron didn’t know how to swim. Curtis Herbon’s family has asked that the media be advised that he could in fact swim. His family believes he may have panicked or plainly just had a difficult time.
