27 yr old Cheboygan man Charged after High Speed Pursuit

CHEBOYGAN, MI – Jacob Stanley Kiefer, 27-years-old, of Cheboygan, was arrested on Monday July 31st, 2017 after a police pursuit that stemmed from a felony drug investigation.

Kiefer has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver, 40 year felonies and flee and elude third degree a 5 year felony.

Due to Kiefer’s past criminal history which involved previous convictions of delivery of narcotics and past prison time he has also been charged as a habitual offender which can enhance his sentence to life in prison.

“Currently the investigation is ongoing, at the time of arrest Kiefer had a quantity of narcotics on him and at this time we are investigating if there is a link to those narcotics and two overdoses that occurred last week, luckily those two individuals survived” said Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont.

During the pursuit Kiefer had side swiped a personal vehicle at the intersection of Levering Rd and US 31. This resulted in Kiefer losing control and then striking a Cheboygan County Sheriff Department vehicle. Kiefer then continued a short distance south on US 31 before losing control and going into the ditch where he was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

“The issues facing us today with the narcotics epidemic is very sad, couple that with the amount of overdoses we see in northern Michigan makes it even worse, plain and simple these drugs kill” said Clarmont.

Kiefer’s bond was set at $500,000.00 cash or surety. His next court date is August 10, 2017 at 9:00am.

Assisting the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department was the Cheboygan Department of Public Safety, the MSP and Emmet County Sheriff’s Department.
