Man Killed when Sailboat Crashes Through Windshield in Mason County

AMBER TOWNSHIP, MI – On Saturday, August 5th, 2017, at 6:12 PM, Deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 3 vehicle crash on US10 west of Stiles Road in Mason County’s Amber Township.

The crash resulted in one fatality that is only being identified at this time as being a male.

The crash took place when an eastbound 2005 Chevy Impala, traveling on US10, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound 2017 Chevy Silverado pickup. The Impala then collided head-on with a trailered sailboat. The last collision brought the sailboat through the windshield of the Impala, killing that vehicle’s driver instantly.

At the time of the press release deputies are still in the process of attempting to ID the deceased driver of the Impala.

US10 had lane restrictions for 3 hours while crews worked the scene. US10 has since been opened.

LIFE EMS, Ludington FD Jaws, Scottville FD, and Pere Marquette FD all responded to the scene as well.

It is unclear at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
