75 yr old Ypsilanti Man Killed when Semi Hits Vehicle in Lenawee County

WOODSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI – On Saturday, August 5, 2017, at approximately 6pm,Troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to a two vehicle traffic crash on US-223 at the intersection with US-127.

Upon arrival on scene, the following sequence of events was determined: a 2009 Chrysler 300 driven by Mr. Cornelius Byrd, 75 years old from Ypsilanti,made a left turn from US-127 on to US-223 directly into the path of a 2017 Western Star semi-truck that was traveling south on US-223. The semi struck the driver’s side of Mr. Byrd’s car, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.

Mr. Byrd died at the scene as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash.

The driver of the semi-truck was treated on-scene by EMS personnel and released. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as factors in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation by the Michigan State Police, and anyone having additional

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, Addison Fire Department, and Lenawee Community Ambulance Service.
