TROY, MI – On Tuesday August 22nd, 2017 at approximately 6:45PM Troy Police Officers observed the occupant of a gold 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix removing several pieces of clothing while inside and outside of the vehicle.
A second subject quickly walked up to the vehicle, entered it, and began to remove multiple pieces of clothing he was wearing as well. A third subject, was observed exiting J. C. Penney’s and she continuously looked back toward the entrance / exit doors as she quickly proceeded toward the vehicle. Officers noted that she appeared to be wearing several layers of clothing as she entered the vehicle.
After several minutes, the second subject exited the vehicle, looked around several times, and placed several pieces of clothing inside the trunk of the vehicle before getting back into the car.
The vehicle left the parking lot at a high rate of speed and began traveling southbound on John R Road. A traffic stop was initiated and officers spoke with the occupants of the vehicle which included a 20 year old female, a 19 year old male, and a 17 year old male, all from Detroit.
The suspects were wearing several items of stolen clothing that had price tags still attached to them along with several other items of stolen merchandise that were recovered from inside the vehicle. Total amount of stolen / recovered merchandise from J. C. Penney was $358.57 from the 19 year old suspect, $131.44 from the 17 year old suspect, and $125.06 from the 20 year old suspect.
Found inside the vehicle were several pairs of wire cutters / pliers used to remove anti-theft devices. Some of the articles of clothing stolen by the male suspects had holes in them from the anti-theft security sensors being torn off the merchandise. All three suspects were arrested with the male suspects being charged with Retail Fraud 2nd Degree, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Malicious Destruction of Property while the female suspect being charged with Retail Fraud – 3rd Degree.
