LYON TOWNSHIP, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Lyon Township sub-station with the investigation of a serious injury, two vehicle crash.
The crash occurred on west bound Grand River Rd east of South Hill Rd at about 8:00 a.m. this morning, Monday August 28th, 2017.
A 26-year-old, South Lyon resident, was operating a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado west bound on Grand River Rd when his vehicle rear-ended a stopped, 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was attempting to turn left into a private business located on the 54000 block of Grand River.
The Freightliner was operated by a 46-year-old Redford Township resident.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was trapped in the vehicle. He was extricated by Lyon Township Fire and was airlifted to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital via University of Michigan Survival Flight. The driver is in surgery, listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was unrestrained. The driver of the Freightliner was restrained. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit was assigned to the case and is currently looking into the circumstances regarding this crash. The crash remains under investigation.
