DETROIT, MI – Menayetta Yeager, 27-years-old, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of her ex-boyfriend Jon’te Maurice-Louis Brooks, 29-years-old, of Detroit.
On Sunday August 27th, 2017 at 1:15 a.m., in the 7900 block of Mack, is alleged that Menayetta Yeager was riding in a truck driven by Labarren Borom, 44-years-old, also of Detroit, when she fired shots at Jon’te Brooks while he was a driving a white Ford Windstar minivan.
After Brooks was shot, his minivan crashed into a brick wall at Greater Christ Baptist Church.
He was pronounced dead at Detroit Receiving Hospital.
There had been much speculation about Jon’te Brooks actually being shot and killed or did the crash of the minivan into the brick wall cause his death. It appears based on the information released from the Wayne County Prosecutors office, it was the gunfire that killed him and not the accident involving the van.
Menayette Yeager turned herself into Detroit Police on Monday, August 28th, 2017 at 5:30 pm.
A photo is circulating on social media showing the woman’s face severely injured. It is unknown when the picture was taken or how her face was actually injured.
Some are saying that the photo shows the injuries that she sustained from being physically abused by Jon’te Brooks. They even went as far to say that Brooks had hit her with the minivan. That would seem to be impossible since she was in a truck driven by Labarren Borom while she was firing a weapon.
One person even exaggerated that Brooks had beat her for years. That statement could not be true because he was in prison up until just over a year ago. Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Jon’te Brooks was convicted in 2013, after a bench trial, for Aggravated Assault. He was released from prison on July 21st, 2016
The facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.
Menayetta Yeager has been charged with Premeditated First Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. If convicted on the murder charge, she will automatically get life in prison with no chance for parole.
Labarren Borom has been charged with Accessory After the Fact.
Both defendants were arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. The probable cause conference is scheduled for September 12, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for September 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court.
Menayetta Yeager was given no bond and sent back to jail
Labarren Borom received a $25,000/10% bond.
