TROY, MI – A Roseville woman, who fled the scene of an accident, sent text messages on Facebook using a hotel computer after she was involved in a two vehicle crash on I-75 which gave Troy Police more than enough evidence to arrest her on drunk driving charges.
Troy Police Officers investigated a two vehicle accident on north bound interstate I-75, west of Rochester Road, on September 1st 2017, at 1:04 AM, in which the at-fault driver abandoned a gray 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and fled the scene on foot.
The driver, Dana Elizabeth Burleigh, 25-years-old, from Roseville, was located at a nearby hotel where she admitted being involved in an accident, denied driving her vehicle, but would not reveal who was driving.
Police were able to determine that her State of Michigan Drivers License was Expired.
Troy Police Officers spoke with the front desk clerk who stated Dana Burleigh admitted to him that she was driving the vehicle when it crashed and that she had been drinking.
Officers then located a hotel computer which was opened to Dana Burleigh’s Facebook Page where she had been messaging another person where she stated to the individual that she was involved in a crash and she was drunk.
The authorities continued to speak with Burleigh and noted an odor of alcohol emanating from her as she spoke. The woman admitted to having consumed alcohol two hours prior to the crash. She was asked to perform several sobriety evaluations to which she did but the officers noted that she performed poorly. She then submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test with a result of .12%.
Dana Burleigh was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, and Driving With an expired Operator’s License.
