Inmate Dies inside of Ingham County Jail Cell


MASON, MI – An investigation is underway after an inmate at the Ingham County Jail in Mason was found dead inside of his cell.

On September 12th, 2017 at approximately 4 a.m. during an hourly cell check, an Ingham County Corrections Deputy located an unresponsive inmate in his bunk. The inmate was assigned to the housing area of the Jail. Corrections personnel began life saving efforts until relieved by paramedics. The cause of death was not apparent and is under investigation.




The inmate was identified as 39-year-old Mark Kelly Rhodus of Monroe, MI. He had been in the jail since 8-3-17 on a 30th Circuit Court contempt charge and a MDOC parole hold from Monroe County.
