EASTPOINTE, MI – Eastpointe Police took a woman into custody at about 10:20AM today, Wednesday September 13th, 2017 after she caused a great deal of damage with her red Chevy SUV behind the Subway Restaurant on 9 Mile Rd.

A witness to the arrest, Anybeth Rogers, who provided video of the scene at the time, stated that the woman, said to be in her late twenties to early thirties, heavy set, and African American, was incoherent as authorities spoke with her.

The woman had hit multiple vehicles and also a wall at least three times before she made it down the alley where police caught up with the suspect and the smoking SUV so she could be questioned about the incident.

The driver did try to back up and flee the scene when she saw police approaching. An Eastpointe Police Officer had to use force, non-excessive, to get her up against the back of the vehicle where she was handcuffed immediately because she was clearly resisting being taken into custody.

Anybeth Rogers also stated that there was a black Suburban that pulled up before she began to video the incident. Someone from the Suburban got out of their car, walked over to the suspect vehicle and then got back into their car and sped off. It is unknown how or if they actually knew the suspect.

Roger’s started filming the incident because she wanted evidence if the suspect tried to harm the officers or actually succeeded in fleeing the scene.

The woman was examined by medical personnel before she was placed in a squad car to be taken off to jail.

Assisting at the scene were the Eastpoint Fire Chief, Eastpointe Fire, EMS and multiple squad cars from the area.

It is unknown if the woman was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
