One killed while working on trailer on side of roadway in Allegan County


GUN PLAINS TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday September 14th, 2017, at approximately 9:30PM, Allegan Central Dispatch received a call reference a personal injury crash that had just occurred on 10th St. near 110th Ave. in Gun Plains Township.

Upon arrival Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies found one person to be severely injured and one another who was dead as a result of the crash.




Several family members of the victims were on scene and witnessed the crash.

The crash remains under investigation but at this time authorities state that it is apparent that a vehicle was disabled on the side of 10th St. Two individuals were working on it and an attached heavy flatbed trailer on the side of the roadway.

A vehicle that was traveling northbound did not see the vehicle and trailer. That vehicle clipped the back of the trailer. That vehicle sustained significant damage but the occupants suffered only minor injuries.

One individual, who was standing on the trailer, was seriously injured and was transported to a local area hospital for treatment.

The second subject suffered obvious fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The question of visibility is still being investigated. The occupants of the vehicle that caused the accident were wearing seat belts and alcohol does not appear to be factor.

Names of those involved have not yet been released.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Gun Plains Fire Dept. and Wayland EMS.
