ALPENA, MI – The Alpena County Sheriff is offering free tours of the ageing facility to educate the public about the dire need for a new jail.
On November 7th, 2017, there is a special election for the public to vote to build a new Alpena County Jail on M32, between Sportsmen Drive and Airport Road.
In an effort to inform the citizens on the conditions of the current jail, Sheriff Steven J. Kieliszewski is offering public tours of the County Jail each Thursday throughout the month of October.
Jail Administrator Sergeant Scott Gagnon will be on hand to give tours of both the jail and sheriff’s office. They encourage the public to come tour the Alpena County Jail, learn about the corrections staff, and ask questions prior to the election on November 7th, 2017.
The tours will take place between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Each tour will last approximately 30 minutes. Anyone wishing to take the jail tour can call Sergeant Gagnon at 989-354-9835 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Purses, cell phones, pocketknives and guns will not be allowed in the facility and all personal property must be left in your vehicle. Tour participants must be 18 years old or older and will be required to show photo identification. Tour participants cannot be a convicted felon or have felony charges pending.
Jail tour participants may be subject to background checks, searches, and restrictions as deemed necessary for the safety and security of the jail.
