Suspects Arrested for Armed Robbery in string of Carjackings around Metro Detroit

DETROIT, MI – Troopers and Detectives from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Second District, Special Investigation Section, MSP Gaming Section, MSP Aviation Unit and the Metro South Post arrested two suspects relating to an investigation into six or more carjacking and Armed Robberies that occurred across Metro Detroit.

On October 1, 2017, at approximately 2 40 AM, troopers arrested two suspects that have been involved in a series of armed robberies from September 22, 2017 through September 30, 2017. The suspects were being followed by undercover officers in conjunction with State Police aviation when they were observed entering a senior center in one vehicle and exit with an additional vehicle that was later determined to be stolen.

The suspects were then observed circling casinos in the stolen van and a second “spotter” car. Eventually the stolen van was observed rear-ending a vehicle on the N/B Lodge near Forest that had just left the casino. The driver of the “bump” stolen van was then observed walking up to the victim’s car, at which time uniform troopers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody, without incident. Troopers recovered a handgun on the ground next to the suspect at time of arrest.

As the arrest on the Lodge Freeway was occurring troopers maintained surveillance on the second suspect “spotter” vehicle and subsequently stopped and arrested the suspect upon exiting the Lodge at Livernois.

State Police have identified (6) related cases to date, (5) in the city of Detroit and (1) Lincoln Park. In addition, (8) stolen vehicles and (1) stolen gun have been recovered.

The Michigan State Police is asking anyone that was involved in a hit and run or robbery shortly after leaving any of the casinos in the city of Detroit to please contact the State Police Metro South Post at 734-287-5000.

The suspects will be arraigned on October 4, 2017 in US District Court
