MT. PLEASANT, MI – A 4 year-old baby girl was tragically killed in a 3 vehicle car accident early Wednesday afternoon in Deerfield Township near the intersection of Remus (M20) and Winn Road.
Isabella County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report a three-car motor vehicle accident on Wednesday October 4th, 2017 at 12:34PM.
When first responders arrived, they discovered that a 4-year female had been ejected from a vehicle. The toddler was in critical condition with an apparent head injury. The mother, Mandy Flachs, 31-years-old, of Deerfield Township, who was also in critical condition, was entrapped in the blue van and required extrication by fire rescue crews to remove her.
The baby girl is being identified as Kaylee Lynn Flachs, 4-years-old, of Deerfield Township.
A second vehicle, a Red Jeep, had one adult female, identified as Yvette Ross, 51-years-old, from Bentley, who was injured but not critical and was transported to a local E.D. by ambulance. It appears that one of the vehicles failed to yield at a Red light and struck the other vehicle.
During the collision one of the vehicles struck a white pickup truck, driven by William Quakenbush, 59-years-old, from Chippewa Township, who was on M20, he was not injured in the crash.
The 4-year-old girl, Kaylee Flachs, died at the scene of the accident prior to transport despite the efforts of EMS. The mother, Mandy Flachs, was airlifted to Midland Hospital and her status is unknown at this time.
Assisting at the accident scene were Isabella County Central Dispatch, Deerfield Twp Fire Department, Fremont Twp Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, Michigan State Police (accident investigation team), Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police Department, Mt Pleasant Police Department, Areomed and Life net helicopters.
