Two from Alpena County Killed in Multi-vehicle Crash near Au Gres

AU GRES, MI – A man and his wife from Alpena County died after a four-vehicle accident on US-23 in Au Gres, at approximately 11:00AM, on Thursday, October 5th, 2017.

Philip Zielaskowski, 68-years-old, and his wife, Fay Zielaskowski, 67-years-old, both of Ossineke, sustained serious injuries during the crash. They had to be extricated from their vehicle by firefighters from the Au Gres-Sims-Whitney Fire Department. They were then transported to St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital where they both were pronounced dead.

The Zielaskowski’s were traveling southbound on US-23 in Au Gres when they were struck from behind by a southbound van. The collision sent the Zielaskowski vehicle into the northbound lane where it collided with a northbound pickup truck pulling a trailer. The van also made impact with a second southbound vehicle, a pickup truck, following the initial collision with the Zielaskowski’s vehicle.


Philip Zielaskowski, 68, and Fay Zielaskowski, 67, both of Ossineke, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, as a result of an auto accident in Au Gres.

Surviving are their son, Lorne (Mary “Polly”) Zielaskowski; 2 grandchildren, Alec, Lauren; siblings, Sonja (Greg) Briley, Susie Kidder, Sandy (John Adams) Zielaskowski, Karen (Irvin) Buchler, Linwood Krueger.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Bannan Funeral Home.
