COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Commerce Township Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle crash that had occurred north of the intersection of M-5 and West 14 Mile Road.
On Tuesday October 10th, 2017, at approximately 1:15 PM, a 2014 Ford Fusion was traveling northbound on M-5 when the driver suffered an apparent medical emergency causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and continued to travel northeast through a grassy ditch, across a shopping center parking lot and across Loop Road. Once across Loop Rd the vehicle continued through another ditch and into a parking lot in the 400 block of Loop Road, where it came to a rest against a curb.
Bystanders at the scene pulled the driver from the vehicle and began administering CPR. Paramedics from Community EMS arrived on the scene and transported the driver to Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills. He was pronounced deceased short time later.
The driver had been wearing his seatbelt. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in this accident. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
