Southwest Detroit businesses provide new gym and equipment for the Detroit Police Department’s Fourth Precinct

DETROIT, MI – Today, Wednesday October 18th, 2017, the Fourth Precinct Commander, Whitney Walton, hosted a Grand Opening of the newly renovated Fourth Precinct’s gym.

In March of 2017, Commander Walton and Ms. Sylvia Gucken, from the Ideal Group, discussed the importance of officer health and job stressors. The Ideal Group took initiative and enthusiastically spearheaded fund-raising efforts among businesses in the Fourth Precinct, to remodel the gym for the Fourth precinct officers.

With the assistance of the Detroit Public Safety Foundation, the following improvements were made: new equipment was purchased: a commercial grade treadmill, 2 commercial grade elliptical machines, a Smith machine, dumbbell set, TRX system, spin bike, heavy rope, exercise ball, hanging mat system, new ceiling fans, a cleansing towel dispenser, fresh coat of paint, recovering of the existing weight machine pads, and a 55 inch television.

Business leaders and officers tested out the new equipment at the grand opening.

Commander Whitney Walton said, “Ultimately, this gym is an investment in our first responders. The community is showing they care about their health and well-being. We, at the Fourth Precinct, could never adequately put into words how much this means to us, especially with how difficult it is for command staff to provide the officers with something for continuously going above and beyond.”

Southwest businesses who participated in the fund raising efforts are, The Ideal Group, Ideal Contracting, Marathon, Bridgewater Interiors, Mario’s Auto Upholstery, James Group International, GAA Vitec, Tacos Veloz, El Barzon, State Farm, Honey Bee Market, and Donut Villa.
