The coyote was seen at 10:51 a.m. Sunday morning. A photo of that was uploaded to the Macomb County Scanner Facebook page.
Coyotes are not uncommon in southeast Michigan. Residents with small dogs and cats should be aware of their animals and not leave them outside unattended, especially at night, if they know that a coyote is in the area because they can be seen as prey or competition for food. Small children should also be watched if outside.
Anyone who feeds animals outside should bring the food inside to discourage the coyote from remaining in the area.
If a coyote does not leave an area, animal control officers should be contacted.
Deborah Boddington sent in an excellent suggestion. Parents should be prepared to go out and stay with their children as they Trick or Treat on October 31st.
