Flint man found Guilty of Assault with intent to Murder

FLINT, MI – On Saturday July 2nd, 2016, at 12:11 AM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a residence on Genesee Road in Lapeer for an active shooter.

Information relayed was that multiple people at that residences had been shot.

It was established that a 32-year-old man from Lapeer had been shot. The 32-year-old was transported to McLaren in Lapeer for immediate care for life threatening injuries.

A second person, a 41-year-old man from Lapeer, was shot at but not physically struck. There was indication that illegal narcotics were associated with multiple people within the house. The named shooter fled on foot before police arrived. Law enforcement started an intense search of the immediate area for the shooter.

Deonte McCoy from Flint was located within 24 minutes, within a mile from the residence, arrested, and lodged at the Lapeer County Jail for assault with intent to commit murder. McCoy was criminally charged by the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office with two counts of assault with intent to commit murder, numerous weapon charges, and illegal narcotics (cocaine) charges. McCoy has been incarcerated within the Lapeer County Jail since the event.
