MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – On Thursday October 5th, 2017, at approximately 7:40am, Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Oliver Street in Macomb for a 55-year-old white male lying in a field near the caller’s home.
The man was visibly injured and unable to speak. He was transported to the hospital; his injuries did not appear self-inflicted. A canvas of the neighborhood led to identification of the man, Jack Kitchen, 55-years-old, who lived in Macomb Township. Kitchen later died in the hospital from his injuries on 10/25/17.
Macomb County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that several people were responsible for the assault to Kitchen. These people, as well as several others, were interviewed and multiple search warrants were conducted. Three suspects were taken into custody and the report was sent to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, who issued warrants for the following three people.
Nicholas Riddle, 38-years-old, white male out of Macomb Township charged with second degree murder, a life felony.
Jamel Bentley, 29-years-old, black male out of Macomb Township charged with second degree murder, a life felony.
Teri Beals, 17-years-old, white female out of Macomb Township charged with one 2 year felony count of Lying to a Peace Officer.
On 10/12/17, Beals was arraigned in the 41-A District Court of Shelby Township. She received a bond of $2,000.00 (10%) and is due back in the Macomb County 16th Judicial Circuit Court on 11/13/17 at 1:30pm.
On 10/31/17, Bentley and Riddle were arraigned in the 41-A District Court of Shelby Township. Both received bonds of $250,000.00 and are due back in court on 11/9/17 at 1:30pm for a probable cause hearing.
Bentley and Riddle originally had lesser charges which were amended after the victim’s death.
