DETROIT, MI – A Detroit organization serving single mothers, Care About Reaching Everyone (C.A.R.E), will distribute 200 baby cribs to combat Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other baby care items from 10am – 12 noon this morning Saturday from at New Grace Church, 25 Ford St, Highland Park, MI 48203.

C.A.R.E. co-founder, Yvonne Cross, says that single moms in Detroit often are unaware of SIDS and wake up in horror with a dead baby by their side. “We can save the lives of babies and help these young ladies with parenting and resource referrals so that they have an opportunity to raise their families properly,” said Cross.

A prerequisite to receiving the cribs is that mothers attend an empowerment workshop on SIDS and life skills. Mothers will receive a certificate upon completion of the workshop. Today’s workshop will feature Dr. Stacy Scott, Ph.D., executive director, The Global Infant Safe Sleep Center.

Dr. Scott notes the severity of SIDS in Michigan and Detroit. “Every year hundreds upon hundreds of babies are lost to SIDS. There are protective measures parents and caregivers can take to reduce the risk of this happening to their baby, and we want to get that message out here in Detroit and throughout the state of Michigan,” said Dr. Scott.
