WARREN, MI – On Monday November 6th, 2017, at approximately 7:30 PM, the Michigan State Police (MSP) Metro North Post responded to a traffic crash that occurred on I-696 near Mound Road in the city of Warren.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Honda SUV was traveling westbound on 696 when the driver drove left onto the shoulder and struck the median wall. The vehicle came to rest with the driver’s side up against the wall and disabled as the left front tire was flat/shredded on the rim.
The driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot by jumping over the median wall and began crossing the eastbound lanes of I 696. The male driver was struck by a Dodge Challenger and dragged on the roadway ending up lodged underneath the vehicle.
The driver of the Honda SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. His name has not yet been released.
The driver of the Dodge stopped after the crash, was interviewed, and released.
The investigation is ongoing by the Metro South Post and the MSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and is pending autopsy results and prosecutor review.
