KALAMAZOO, MI – On Thursday November 9th, 2017, at approximately 6:40am, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a 911 call of multiple gunshots in the 100 block of E. Emerson St.
As officers arrived they encountered a traumatic scene involving three victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures, securing the scene, and initiating an investigation. It was later learned, Nicholas Allen Mitchell, a 40-year-old Kalamazoo resident had an argument with the mother of his child, Ms. Julina Gale Gibson, a 30-year-old Kalamazoo resident.
During this altercation, Mr. Mitchell is believed to have produced a gun, shooting his 4-year-old son, Nicholas Jeffrey Mitchell, Ms. Julina Gibson, and then turning the gun on himself.
Julina Gibson and Nicholas Mitchell Jr. were pronounced dead shortly after officers were called to the scene. Nicholas Jeffery Mitchell, 4-years-old, succumbed to his injuries late last night, November 9th, 2017, at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
