BROWN CITY, MI – A 32-year-old Auburn Hills man was killed on Saturday November 11th, 2017 when he was struck by a vehicle Lapeer County.
On Saturday, at 5:08AM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to a reported car-pedestrian traffic crash that occurred upon Van Dyke (M-53) north of Clear Lake Road in Brown City (Lapeer County’s Burnside Township).
Christopher Valentine, 32-years-old, from Auburn Hill, was the pedestrian traveling upon Van Dyke Road. Valentine was within the lane designated for southbound traffic. It was dark, the area is not lighted, and Valentine was wearing camouflage with no reflective material.
A 2005 Dodge Dakota was traveling south on Van Dyke Road. The 60-year-old driver from Clifford stated that they were traveling below the posted speed limit of 55 MPH due to concerns of moving deer. The Dodge Dakota and Valentine collided within the southbound lane of the roadway. Both the vehicle and Valentine came to rest within the southwest corner of the intersection (Van Dyke and Clear Lake Road).
The 60-year-old driver and their two passengers were not injured.
Christopher Valentine was pronounced dead at the scene.
The roadway was closed for several hours for rescue and investigative purposes. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Brown City Fire Department.
The preliminary investigation supports that neither alcohol nor excessive speed relating to the vehicle are factors.
This remains an active investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau (D/Sgt. Robert Wells at firstname.lastname@example.org or D/Sgt. Jason Parks at email@example.com).
