Possible Drunk Driver causes Double Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Monroe County


LASALLE TOWNSHIP, MI – Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone is reporting a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Monday, December 4, 2017, at approximately 2:50PM, on South Telegraph Road, north of Swartz Road, in LaSalle Township.

Prior to the crash, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a call from a concerned motorist regarding a blue Dodge Durango that was observed operating southbound on South Telegraph Road, in a reckless manner. The blue Durango was southbound on South Telegraph Road, when witnesses observed the vehicle cross left-of-center and strike a maroon 2009 Dodge Caravan that was traveling northbound on South Telegraph Road. After striking the maroon Caravan, the blue Durango struck a gold 2006 Chevrolet Malibu that was also traveling northbound on South Telegraph Road, behind the maroon Caravan.




Mr. Jordan K. Welsh, age 27, of Toledo, OH, was operating the maroon Dodge Caravan, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Welsh was transporting three passengers at the time of the crash, which included Jennifer R. Boran, 40-years-old, of Erie, MI, whom was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Welsh’s other two passengers were transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, OH, by ambulance for injuries sustained during the crash.

Ms. Skyler A. Kolinski, 21-years-old, of Toledo, OH, is currently listed in critical condition, while Mrs. Barbara Kolinski, 64-years-old, of Erie, MI is currently listed in serious, but stable, condition. Ms. Skyler Kolinski is Ms. Boran’s daughter, while Mrs. Barbara Kolinski is Ms. Boran’s mother.

Ms. Stephanie A. Heath, 29-years-old, of Monroe, MI, was operating the gold Chevrolet Malibu that was also involved in the crash. Ms. Heath was transported to Toledo Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, and is currently listed in stable condition.

Ms. Keyanna T. Austin, age 22, of Toledo, OH was operating the blue 2006 Dodge Durango. Ms. Austin was also transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, by ambulance, for injuries sustained in the crash, and is currently listed in stable condition.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

Members of the LaSalle Township Fire Department, Monroe Township Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene. Troopers from the Michigan State Police – Monroe Post assisted as well.

The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office – Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 734-240-7557.
