L’Anse Creuse High School North placed on Modified Lockdown after Students Receive Message about a Weapon

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – Students at L’Anse Creuse High School North reported getting a message on Snapchat that stated “I have a gun in my backpack.”

Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputy’s responded to the school at 1:00pm on Monday November 4th, 2017, to investigate. That is when the school went on modified lockdown. Deputies arrived and spoke with L’Anse Creuse officials. It was reported that two students reported receiving a post via Snapchat that stated “I have a gun in my backpack”. The post was made to a Snapchat group used by L’Anse Creuse North students.

After deputies arrived a second post was sent to the group by the same user that stated “lmao jk”. This is slang for
“laughing my ass off just kidding”. The person posting at that time was unknown.

School officials had put the school on a modified lock down status. That meant that students could move throughout the building and classes go on as usual with nobody leaving or coming into the building.

Deputies located the person who made the comments and found that they did not possess any weapons. It is unknown if the individual will face charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
