Portion of M-52 to be known as Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway

LANSING, MI – On Tuesday December 5th, 2017, Governor Snyder signed into law Senate Bill 509, known as the Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway bill.

As a result, the portion of highway M-52 in Stockbridge Township in Ingham County that extends from the southern intersection of M-52 and M-106. to the intersection of M-52 and M-36 shall be known as the “Deputy Grant Whitaker Memorial Highway.”

Early next year MDOT will be placing the signs near southbound M-52 and M-36, as well as northbound M-52 and M-106

Deputy Grant Whitaker was killed in the line of duty while in pursuit of a suspect vehicle on Sunday, December 7th, 2014.

At 2:11am Deputy Grant William Whitaker, 25-years-old, and another patrol car were pursuing a vehicle eastbound on Dexter Trail about a mile east of M-52 when Whitaker’s patrol vehicle left the road and struck a tree.
